The Community

As a local church we consider community involvement to be an integral part of our church life. Given the constraints placed upon us but our current size, our community involvement takes place primarily through individual involvement in voluntary sector initiatives, as School Governors and as citizens seeking to influence our society through political engagement. However, we have plans to develop this side of our church life. A Transformation Action Group has been formed to initiate and co-ordinate our involvement in a wider range of ‘mercy ministries’. In partnership with Co-Mission we are already involved in a number of projects, some of which are highlighted below

Crisis Pregnancy

Options Pregnancy Resource Centre is a ministry reaching out to women and/or their partners who deal with unexpected pregnancy and post abortion counselling. It’s based in Wimbledon and we support it through our membership of Co-Mission.

Options Wimbledon

Options offers:

  • time people need to sort through all the options available to them, providing accurate information, unconditional support and free pregnancy testing.
  • a befriending service and free second hand baby equipment and clothing to support women practically and emotionally during pregnancy and the first year of a baby’s life.
  • post abortion counselling for women and men who find themselves traumatised by not only the abortion experience but also by the way their hearts have been bruised through the abortion decision.

  • Call. These weekly sessions are backed up by a 24 hour telephone line (020 8540 7675), manned personally during office hours with left messages answered within 24 hours.
  • Make an appointment. We are happy to make appointments outside the drop in session times.
  • Care Confidential. Our answer phone message also gives the number of the Care Confidential national 24 hour helpline, which provides a telephone counselling service and an on-line counselling service for those whose need is immediate. Care Confidential is our national affiliate.

Volunteer

Options

Options is run by a team of dedicated volunteers from churches around southwest London. They serve as counsellors, receptionists, befrienders, and prayer supporters. It’s a great privilege to care for people in these ways. We invite anyone in a supporting church who is interested in helping Options in any of these ways to contact Janet McGrath on 020 8540 7675.

Money Management

Money worries?  Every few months we run ‘CAP Money' money management courses which require a commitment of one evening per week over a three week period. The course is particularly suitable for people who want to organise their finances effectively and manage their way out of debt.

You will work with trained Money Coaches who are available to provide one to one guidance.  If, having worked your way through your situation with the Money Coach, you find yourself in a situation where your debt is unmanageable your coach can refer you to the professional services of Christians Against Poverty, with whom we partner.

For further information please visit the Cap Money Website or contact us.
