Knowing God
‘Knowing God’ is the name we’ve given to the evening church midweek small groups. They provide an opportunity for learning from the Bible, praying together and giving and receiving personal care.
They happen on a Wednesday night at Chestnut Grove School. People start arriving from 7.30pm for coffee and refreshments. The formal start time is 8.00pm. We’re always done by 9.30pm. We tend to study Bible books together; recent studies have looked at Malachi, Luke’s Gospel and the Letter to the Hebrews. We’re really keen for people to join a small group if they can because they make a huge difference in people benefiting from the community life.
Ministry Matters
Ministry Matters is a course that seeks to deepen our knowledge of God and equip us for his service. The course consists of a number of different modules including
- An eye opening opportunity to grasp the story of the whole Bible with a four week Bible overview. We also begin to think through the importance of Biblical Theology in rightly understanding and applying the Bible.
- A crucially foundational module entitled ‘Understanding and Teaching the Bible'. This aims to give people the skills of biblical exposition, interpretation and application that are essential in running good small group studies. We also think about the practicalities of the dynamics of small group ministry.
- An ambitious attempt to summarise the main themes or doctrines of the Bible through a consideration of the seven main systematic theology topics [God and His Trinitarian existence, Revelation and the Bible, Humanity and Sin, Jesus Christ and Salvation, the Holy Spirit and Gifts, The Church, Heaven and Hell]
- A whistle stop tour of ministry training including things like evangelism, social transformation, church planting and leadership.
The course is aimed at those who are already well grounded in Bible study. All of our Knowing God leaders will do this year long course at some stage. Each Ministry Matters member is encouraged to be actively involved in some form of service.
